City Bird Vote

One of the criteria for a Bird Friendly City is to designate an Official City Bird. With the support of the City of Calgary we held a public vote between April 1-May 1, 2022.

Our official bird vote brought in almost 37000 votes and thousands of comments on how to make Calgary more Bird Friendly! On May 14, World Migratory Bird Day we made the official announcement of the winner:

the Black-capped Chickadee! 

On June 7, 2022 the Black-capped Chickadee was officially adopted as the City Bird by City council.
